Correctional Emergency Response Team
Master Instructor Certification Course


COURSE LOCATION:          Cass County Sheriff's Office
                                                Harrisonville, Missouri

COURSE DATES:                 April 19-23 & 26-30, 2010 .

COURSE PROFILE: A two-week extensive and comprehensive (80 hour) CERT Master Instructor Certification Course designed and developed for those agencies desiring an in-house instructor(s) who is fully capable and certified to properly instruct/train/certify other personnel for CERT, Disturbance/Riot Control, Less Lethal Shotgun and Hostage Rescue Teams for the department.  Since 1990, these programs have been in constant use with correctional facilities nationwide.  Fully backed in a court of law, not one department or instructor has been successfully sued in any correctional use of force condition.

This program provides unprecedented credibility with use of force training for your department with five (5) year certification.  Note: to attain CERT Master Certification both weeks must be attended (TJA CERT Instructors trained in the last 2 years – week one is waived)


Topics Covered in the Program Include:

    • Week 1 Updating/establishing a lawful operational CERT team.
    • Use of force parameters in numerous correctional emergency response team operations including: cell extractions, movement/transportation of inmates, disturbance & riot control and hostage rescue situations.
    • Correctional based control & restraint techniques, Emergency Response Belt (ERB) techniques & tactics & Correctional OC Instructor certification.
    • Week 2 Disturbance and Riot Control Team training and tactics including: Shield/Spray (S&S) formations, movements and entries; Correctional Less Lethal Shotgun Specialist training with shotgun flash-bang rounds, flexible and non-flexible munitions, Magnum Unit OC Canister use & applications.
    • Hostage rescue response priorities: location & incident logistics.
    • Facility environmental planning logistics and vulnerability.
    •  Week 1 & 2 Hands-on exercises and scenarios will be conducted in all phases of the training.
    • Proper documentation procedures as well as up-to-date forms will be provided to each participant for departmental use and implementation.
    • Written and practical examinations.
