INTAKE CONTROL SPECIALIST Facility & Instructor Certification Course

COURSE PROFILE: The intake area has been and will continue to be the most volatile area within a facility. This three day "cost effective" course was developed to further enhance the professionalism of your intake area. The officers in this area are the first line of control that an individual will face in your facility. Often times these individuals are entering your facility under the influence of drugs, alcohol or some type of mental disorder. This program offers verbal de-escalation methods as well as field tested hands-on techniques to control these violent subjects. The program will also certify your intake officers to use the Emergency Response Belt (E.R.B.). The E.R.B. is classified as a soft restraint and is in use by over 500 corrections departments and hospitals in the United States. Train the intake personnel within your facility to quickly and effectively control these violent individuals. This course is designed to work in conjunction with your existing policies and procedures and will further enhance the skills of your officers .
A fourth day can be scheduled to train instructors for your facility.

Topics Covered in the Program Include:

  • Understanding the cognitive effects of incarceration on an individual.
  • Verbal de-escalation techniques and understanding body space parameters when handling or dealing with potentially violent subjects in the intake environment.
  • Field tested hands-on techniques to establish quick and effective control.
  • Use and application of the E.R.B. for restraint and controlled movement of violent subjects as well as cell injection techniques.
  • Special uses of the E.R.B.: pinning and control methods, arm/leg wrapping techniques and take-downs for upper torso/legs.
  • Drills and practical exercises from potential situations arising in the intake area will be conducted.
  • Documentation and certification procedures for legality issues.
